After studying at Parsons and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, ZALDY kick-started his career in fashion as a runway model and fixture in the downtown New York club circuit, where he met event producer Suzanne Bartsch. This relationship led to collaborations and image consulting with companies like Donna Karan, Shiseido and MAC.
In 2004, Zaldy became involved with Gwen Stefani’s pop chic clothing line, L.A.M.B., where he started out as a consultant and was quickly made head designer.
Inspired by intriguing and diverse women such as model, Karen Elson, and designer, Vivienne Westwood, Zaldy works to create strong pieces that are “easy and uncomplicated, comfortable without being dull." Zaldy honed his craft through interactions with photographers, set designers and sculptors, whom Zaldy describes as artists who understand aspects like volume, shape and form rather than just having fashion knowledge.
In creating a new collection, he purposefully disregards fashion magazines and what is “in or out,” instead relying on his impeccable instincts. Although fascinated with designing his own lines, Zaldy admits that he loves designing custom pieces for his high-profile clients, including Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Lopez, Mick Jagger, Hilary Duff, Beyoncé, Halle Berry, the Scissor Sisters and Rufus Wainwright.
